Privacy and cookie policy

This policy explains what data we process when you visit Sextante (sextante.fpardo.net), why, and what rights you have. Sextante is a free suite of financial calculators; our guiding principle is to process as little data as possible.

What data we process and why

Calculations in your browser

The calculators run entirely in your browser. The values you enter (savings, income, amounts, etc.) are not sent to or stored on our servers. You do not need to register to use them.

Portfolio and account (optional)

If you choose to use the portfolio feature, you create an account with your email address (passwordless magic-link sign-in) and we store on our servers the positions you record (symbol, quantity, average price, broker, currency and asset class), the payouts you record or import and, if you enter them, the negative balances from earlier returns still pending offset. This data is necessary to provide the portfolio-tracking service.

Legal basis: performance of the service you request by registering.
If you import transactions from a broker (for example, the Trade Republic transaction export), we store only your buys and sells (instrument, date, quantity, price and fee) and your payouts (dividends, interest and rewards: date, amount, withholdings and source country). The file is not kept, and any third-party data it may contain (counterparties, IBANs, payment references) is discarded when it is read.
You can export all your data (JSON) and delete your account at any time from My account; deleting it removes your account, your positions and the access granted to applications.

Connected applications (MCP)

You can connect external apps or AI assistants (for example, Model Context Protocol clients) to read or modify your portfolio on your behalf. This connection uses the OAuth 2.1 standard:

Access is only granted after your explicit consent on a screen that states which application and which permissions (read and/or modify the portfolio) it requests.
When you use a connected application, you share your portfolio data with that application's provider, which you choose; that processing is governed by the provider's own privacy policy.
The application can also use Sextante's calculators (mortgages, income tax, FIRE…). The values it sends them are used only to return the result and are not stored; as with every other tool, we only log which tool was used, when and from which application.
You can view and revoke any application's access at any time from My account → Connected applications.
Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Email notices (optional)

If you turn them on in My account → Email notices, we email you when your portfolio crosses 25, 50, 75 or 100% of the financial independence goal you have saved. To do so we use your email address, your saved goal and your portfolio's daily valuation, and we store whether they are on, the language you want them in and the last milestone notified (so it is not repeated). Emails are sent through our email delivery provider.

Legal basis: your consent: they are off until you turn them on.
You can unsubscribe at any time from the link in every email or from My account; deleting your account also deletes these preferences.

Usage statistics (first-party analytics)

To learn which pages and tools are used, we measure visits with Umami, an open-source tool that we host on our own servers: the data is not sent to any third party.

What is recorded: the page visited (without the URL parameters, which is where shareable calculations keep their values), the referring page, language, device type, browser, operating system, screen size and an approximate location (country, region and city) derived from the IP address at the time of the visit. Also a few actions, with no amounts or personal data: copying a calculation link, saving a scenario, requesting a sign-in link, adding a position, importing transactions from a broker, opening the tax return report, changing its year, downloading or printing it and starting a donation.
What is not recorded: your IP address, your email, or the values in the calculators or your portfolio. No cookies are used: visits on the same day are grouped under an irreversible code that changes every day, so you cannot be followed from one day to the next.
If your browser has Do Not Track turned on, nothing is recorded.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate use of the site to improve it, with minimal impact on your privacy. You can object by turning on Do Not Track or blocking the script in your browser.

We do not use advertising or analytics cookies: the usage statistics described above work without cookies. You can configure or block cookies in your browser without preventing you from using the calculators.

Recipients and international transfers

When you connect an external application (MCP), your portfolio data is shared with the provider you choose, which may be located outside the European Economic Area. Apart from that case, we do not sell or share your data with third parties for their own purposes.

Retention

If you do not use the portfolio, we do not retain any personal data of yours on our servers beyond the usage statistics, which cannot identify you and which we keep to compare how the site is used over time. If you do, we retain your account and your positions until you delete your account. Access granted to applications (OAuth/MCP) is retained until you revoke it, and expired tokens are deleted automatically.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, object, restrict processing and to data portability, as well as to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise them, write to us at the contact address.

If you believe we have not handled your request properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) (www.aepd.es).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect legal or technical changes. The date of the last update appears at the top of the page.
