Dividends calculator

Work out your annual dividend income and yield, after the Spanish withholding tax, and project the stream with annual growth.

How the dividends calculator works

A dividend is the share of profit a company distributes to shareholders. When you receive it in Spain, the tax office applies a withholding (19 % by default) prepaying the tax on that savings income.

How to read the result. The gross dividend is shares × dividend per share. The net subtracts the withholding. The dividend yield relates it to what you invested. If you enter an annual growth rate and a horizon, the calculator projects the stream and accumulates the net dividends year by year.

Worked example (default values). 100 shares paying €1.50 each, at a price of €50, with 5 % annual dividend growth over 10 years:

  • Gross (year 1): 100 × €1.50 = €150.
  • Withholding (19 %): €28.50 → net (year 1) €121.50.
  • Gross dividend yield: €150 / €5,000 = 3 % (net 2.43 %).
  • After 10 years growing at 5 %: net dividend in the final year €188.49 and cumulative net dividends €1,528.21.

An important note. The withholding is a prepayment, not the final tax: dividends are taxed in the savings base (19 %–30 % in brackets). A high dividend doesn't guarantee a good investment, nor does past growth assure the future.
