How the fixed-term deposit calculator works

A fixed-term deposit locks up your money for a period in exchange for known interest (the APR). It's among the safest products, but also among the least profitable.

How to read the result. You'll see the gross interest, the net final value and, if you enter an inflation figure, the real value (what that money is worth today). The interest is taxed in the savings base (19 % withholding, adjustable).

Worked example (default values). €10,000 at a 3 % APR for 1 year, with 2.5 % inflation:

  • Gross interest: €300.
  • After the 19 % withholding: €243 net (final value €10,243).
  • Real value (today's purchasing power): 10,243 / 1.025 ≈ €9,993.

An important note. Here's the catch: you earn €243 net, but with 2.5 % inflation your money loses purchasing power (from €10,000 real to €9,993). Always compare the interest with expected inflation.
