How the high-yield account calculator works

A high-yield account pays interest on the money you hold in it while keeping immediate access (unlike a deposit, which locks it up).

How to read the result. You'll see the interest at the stated APR, the net final balance and, if you enter an inflation figure, the real value of that balance. As with deposits, the interest is taxed in the savings base (19 % withholding, adjustable).

Worked example (default values). €10,000 at a 2.5 % APR for 1 year, with 2.5 % inflation:

  • Gross interest: €250.
  • After the 19 % withholding: €202.50 net (final balance €10,202.50).
  • Real value (today's purchasing power): 10,202.50 / 1.025 ≈ €9,954.

Here the withholding and inflation eat the whole return: the balance grows, but your purchasing power falls from €10,000 to about €9,954.

An important note. Read the small print: many accounts cap the rewarded balance, require a salary direct debit, or pay the high rate for only a few months. And compare the interest with inflation.
