How the retirement savings calculator works

This calculator projects the capital you'll have at retirement by combining what you've already saved, what you contribute each month and the expected return until then. Unlike the FIRE calculator (which reasons in real terms), here you use a nominal return and inflation is modelled separately, so you also see your wealth in today's euros.

How to read the result. The nominal wealth is the figure you'll see in your account on the day you retire. The wealth in today's euros discounts inflation: it's what that money will actually buy. The monthly income applies the 4% rule to the real wealth, so it's already in today's purchasing power.

Worked example (default values). At 30, with €15,000 saved and €300/month until 67 (37 years), with a 6 % nominal return, 2.5 % inflation and 0.3 % fees (TER):

  • Contributed: €15,000 + (€300 × 12 × 37) = €148,200.
  • Estimated nominal wealth: about €577,655, thanks to compound interest.
  • In today's euros that's about €229,279 (inflation takes the rest).
  • It would fund an income of about €764.26/month in today's purchasing power (the 4 % rule).

An important note. The public pension likely won't be enough to keep your standard of living; private saving complements it. Future return, inflation and fees are assumptions, not a guarantee: adjust them to explore different scenarios.
